Sturgeon Lake (about the middle of the lake) is situated approximately 45 km north west of Peterborough up Chemong Rd to Lindsay Rd / Trans-Canada Hwy, west to Sturgeon Rd and north.

The lake is Y shaped and has the communities of Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Sturgeon Point and Bobcaygeon at the north-west, south, central and north-east points of the Y respectively. The lake is approximately 25 km (16 mi) from the southern to the north-eastern extremes, the longer axis.

Game fish species include large and small mouth bass, muskie and walleye.

Sturgeon Lake has Bobcaygeon at east point where it joins Pigeon Lake at Lock 32. At the north western edge there is Lock 34 in Fenelon Falls which joins Cameron Lake. The southern end of the lake is at Lindsay. There are plenty of places to boat to with marinas, golf courses, shopping, etc. on this large lake.

The depth of Sturgeon Lake is at a maximum 30 ft (9.14 m). It does get shallower towards Lindsay.
